5 things to discuss with a fireworks company before booking your venue.

When you are planning an event one of the most important element is the venue.  Whether it’s a wedding, a milestone birthday, a company event or even an epic community event, your venue needs to be able to cater to your needs and provide the perfect backdrop for the type of celebration you want your guests to enjoy.

Event pyro displays are becoming more popular in the UK, so what do you need to ask your chosen fireworks company before you sign on the dotted line with your venue?

Here are 5 things to consider when booking a fireworks display…

  1. Venue restrictions

A venue will typically advise whether they allow fireworks on site or not. If you have your heart set on a fireworks display, this is something to make sure you have confirmed with your preferred venue before paying a deposit.

If a venue is close to farmland and livestock, or is based in a built up area, the venue may specify that you choose a low noise firework display and may restrict where you can site the fireworks.

Under UK law it is not permitted to fire later that 11pm except for Bonfire Night (midnight), New Years Eve (1am), Diwali (1am) and Chinese New Year (1am).

If your preferred venue doesn’t allow fireworks then you may be able to negotiate an alternative type of display to add some fizz and sparkle to your event, such as a sparkler walkway with your guests.  We have a number of alternatives to a firework display so get in touch to find out more.

  1. Space

Ideally fireworks should be set on a flat, firm lawned surface, with no overhead trees, cables or other obstructions.

Experienced firers can work within tight spaces, but the more space the better. Firers typically need a 50m minimum space between the fireworks and the audience, in order to achieve the required fall out and safety distances.

Any fireworks display company should be happy to discuss your requirements in depth and design a display with the environmental conditions and available space in mind.

  1. Budget

Firework shows aren’t necessarily about quantity, but more the quality of the fireworks used and their compilation.

Make sure that your chosen company uses safe fireworks and has a license. Here’s some further guidance as to what you should look for.

Displays from Gala Fireworks can range from £700 up to £20,00+, and a display of between three and twelve minutes will suffice depending on the type of event you are holding. Here’s a breakdown of the types of firework packages we offer.

  1. Displays

Your type of event naturally influences the type of fireworks display that you will choose, for example, a corporate event will differ greatly from a wedding day.

However timing, colour, music and level of impact are all individual things to consider when deciding on the kind of show you would like.

Firing times in the summer are typically between 10.30pm – 11pm, but can be fired much earlier in the winter. Whatever time you decide it needs to be going dark in order for the fireworks to give maximum effect and show up across the sky.

Colour, music and level of impact of your fireworks display can be designed to any theme, personality and personal preference.  We can also consider any special requirements such as low noise or bespoke fireworks if you really want to push your budget.

  1. Reputation

It is important to do your research when deciding who you’d like to fire your event firework display. Safe design and rigging are paramount, therefore speak to at least three different fireworks companies to get a feel for their expertise, experience and insurance policies.

Any fireworks company should be happy to discuss your requirements and provide a no obligation quote.

Once a booking is taken the fireworks company then usually deals directly with the venue, leaving you to get on with planning your event.
